Fact-Checking Policy

Editorial Standards

1. Commitment to Accuracy

Indiapratidin is dedicated to publishing accurate information in all its content. We take several steps to ensure accuracy, including:

  • Investigating claims with skepticism.
  • Questioning assumptions.
  • Challenging conventional wisdom.

2. Due Accuracy

Our commitment to achieving due accuracy is fundamental to our reputation and the trust of our audience. The term ‘due’ means that the accuracy must be adequate and appropriate to the content, considering the subject and nature of the information. We explicitly mention any constraints that may influence this expectation.

3. Sourcing and Corroboration

All our output, as appropriate to its content and nature, must be well-sourced, based on available evidence, and corroborated. We strive to be honest about what we don’t know and avoid unfounded speculation.

4. Integrity in Journalism

Our journalists never plagiarize or distort facts or context, including visual information, deliberately.

5. Independent Verification

We seek independent verification from sources to confirm claims, information, and allegations, especially those made by public officials or anyone with an agenda beyond merely reporting the truth. Claims and material facts that cannot be corroborated are usually attributed.

6. Accountability

Indiapratidin stands by the information it publishes and deems it accurate. If proven otherwise, we update the information as quickly as possible. We do not knowingly mislead our audiences or distort facts, which could undermine trust in our content. We acknowledge and correct serious factual errors promptly.

7. Public Reporting of Errors

We provide the public with an opportunity to report inaccuracies or errors in our reportage through the ‘Suggest A Correction’ section at the end of every web story.

8. Editorial Review

Our journalists’ primary responsibilities are reporting, writing, and fact-checking stories, which are subject to review by one or more editors. Indiapratidin has a multi-level fact-checking structure for stories requiring due diligence. The seniority of editors reviewing a story varies based on complexity, sensitivity, and time constraints.

Correction Policies

While Indiapratidin strives for excellence and accuracy, we acknowledge that errors may occasionally occur. When these errors are made, Indiapratidin takes responsibility for correcting them and maintains transparency to ensure confidence that incorrect information does not spread.

Steps for Accuracy, Transparency, and Excellence:

For Readers:

  • If a reader spots an error, they should contact the editor-in-chief immediately via email, phone, mail, or in person.
  • Email: contact@indiapratidin.com
  • Subject: Correction Needed
  • A correction is not officially submitted until the reader contacts the editor-in-chief directly. Corrections submitted to other staff members may not be addressed promptly or at all.
  • The correction request should include the correction, the issue date or number, where the error was seen (in print, online, etc.), the reader’s name, and a phone number or email address. Readers should also provide the correct information and a source if applicable.

The reader can expect a response from the editor-in-chief and may be contacted for further clarification. Submitting a correction request guarantees an investigation but not necessarily a correction.

For Indiapratidin:

  • Once aware of an error, the editor-in-chief will investigate using information from the reader, meeting minutes, reporter’s recordings, and other sources.
  • If an error is found, the editor-in-chief will issue a correction in all formats where the incorrect information was disseminated:
    • Print: Corrections will be printed on page 2A in the next issue, detailing the error and the correction.
    • Online: The article will be corrected with an editor’s note at the bottom, indicating what was incorrect and when the change was made.
    • Social Media: If posted on platforms like Facebook or Twitter, a post will link to the corrected article and note the correction.

The editor-in-chief will inform the reader who submitted the correction of the steps taken to rectify the error.
